A very interesting subject this carved cheroot holder it is carved as the Angel of death the seventh curse of Moses against the Egyptians was the taking of there first born he we see the Angel carrying off a young child note the carved face beneath the Angels veil how did they do that?Probably French circa 1885.
Check out the work of the Venetian Rococo sculptor Antonio Corradini. There were classical Greek veiled goddesses too.
