    (10 items)

ok, I think one is an old cloths iron, but I'm not sure. I have no idea what the other one is, I got them both at an estate sale on the west side of Chicago. Help me identify these items! Thanks!

Or (rt) a foot rest (inverted) for shoe shiner.

      Hi dppeddler:
It is a cobbler's shoe form. Used when resoleing a shoe. Some heals used glue and tacks to be held in place, this gives the cobbler a firm surface to hammer against without crushing the finished leather of the shoe.

Great thanks everyone! This web-site is a great resource for learning more about the history of each particular object. Thanks again.

Yeah. I believe the shoe shine one had a step-down to hold the front of the heel to steady things while shining.

Yes Blunderbuss, you are right, because shoe polish is usually wax based, it would become slippery if their wasn't an indentation for the heal to catch hold.

MT: I guess anything is possible, especially if someone DIYed a stand, but the profesional stands I remember, both old and new used a holder with an indent to hold the heal. Nordstom still has a shoe shine stand. Also there are ergonomics to think about, as a shoe shine stand should be at an angle. These lasts are horizontal, which would be uncomfortable for the customer's ankle.

      Sa wha?

I think it would be a lot less painful to use the iron form rather nail the soles on with your foot in the shoe. E4B, maybe, if you have a peg-leg.

That's, v-ass. You have a good memory for that running joke & glad you appreciated it. Love.

What I said was a last on a last holder is horizontal. A foot rest is tilted, heal down to be comfortable for the customer. Thus: http://www.warkov.com/catalog/popup_image.php?pID=999

Actually TubeA, I think the angle of the dangle on the considible for the identifit is slightly wrong on the monadnock is about 1 1/4 degrees off in the example you gave. Giving credit where due, the merkin cant does look correct. Any questions?

I seem to be losing a lot of friends lately! At least I'm not paranoid. I KNOW I'm being followed!

Actually Tuba, hard liquor hasn't passed my lips since 1991. A few Coronas, yes. I found that neither me or others liked me when I drank hard. It was a relief to all parties concerned when I quit. Afraid I have to report that this is my natural state. Should I seek out a support group & what group would that be? I've accepted the fact that I'm dysfunctional, so why don't you? LOL . Where I live the min. temp. is 72-74F & highest is 87-89F. Maybe there is a method in my madness!
Hang around TubA, I like you. I think you have a sense of humour and if not, I will develop it for you.

That's a nice idea. I see the good ol'boy never posted the other side of his "coin". I guess that will be his greatest fishing story. I guess everyone is allowed one ;)

      Cheers,

Actually I wish he had as I don't think it was all BS. Well, it's time I go hang upside down on the rafters & get some sleep.
