This is my 1863 Springfield Civil War rifle, it would have fired the 58cal minnie ball. This model is the Type II and was the last of the percussion rifles made. An original from the Springfield factory. On the stock there is a carving "PA" not sure what that refers to, state or initials of owner and not sure when done. I also have a newer spare barrel that I can swap out and use for live firing. For now I take it on Gettysburg Battlefield when I go out in uniform, it is great talking piece and attracts lots of attention and photo opps! Most people have not been that close to one and are amazed at its weight and length. I am very proud to own it. We could do with a new category for militiria/civil war.

What a beauty, I shoot black powder, but just replica guns. It's a thrill when you get to hold an original.

Awsome peice of history Blackbear50! I would be as Proud as U if I owned a original. I have a old double barrel black powder rifle. I have been lookin for the paper that has all the markings I wrote down, when I took it apart. Can't find it. I think I will just post the rifle anyway.... Thanks for sharing yours....

My Dad had an 1864 "Springfield Armory" musket similar to yours, I carefully played with it when I was a kid. Yes, amazing how heavy these are. Imagine carrying this weapon for miles a day under battle conditions? My Dad bought his from a neighbor cleaning out his shed for I think, .45 cents; of course, that was in 1932! Great item, and thanks for sharing with us....
