I would really appreciate some assistance in trying to obtain information regarding the history be hind this absolutely amazing piece. I used to own a moving company and the clients were going to throw this out. As you can tell, I refused to let that occure.
You have a Cast Iron Marble top Plant Stand. It is missing a piece of marble on the bottom. Late Victorian era. It does not look like solid brass, thats a finish over cast iron. Your pictures show a little rust mark underside? Plus you can see wear to finish on the upper leg. They sell for 1round 100.00 in this condition. If you had other piece of marble a little more. Dave
Thank you for your response Dave :)
FYI... A magnet does not stick to non ferrous metals. IE; Brass, Copper, Stainless, Gold, Sterling, etc... and a magnet does not stick to any portion of this table or the screws. When I first recieved this piece, the faces as well as the feet and any other detail, were unnoticeable. This was gilded to the max. Upon many hours of precise grinding with a wire wheel, is when all of the beauty appeared.
The closeups looked like it had some dark spots at the top of leg. Giving the appearance that it was gilded cast iron. Unidentified, wasn't sure if you were guessing about metal. Still same time period late victorian. To find the exact stand is a iffy, but you can go by comparables of same period and materials. Here are a few:
