Okay I got this really neat looking snuff bottle. I can't read the reign period and nor can I figure it out by searing google. Can ANYONE help?

I believe it's Chinese? Not sure. I love the carving to it though and the ivory spoon is way neat!

    any tips would be awesome!

Well, if it is really for snuff, remember tobacco wasn't known until after 1492.

oh..well what else would it be for? If not snuff?
Are you able to translate the bottom for me?
I guess I just assumed it was for snuff.
      Thanks blunderbuss!

Me not know, mon. I was just pointing out a historical fact. Look on my site & you will find 1 almost identical made of ivory. The top of mine was stuck really tight & I left it rather than take a chance of breaking it but the bases of both are virtually identical in aging. Asking a Chinie friend, he said the bottom was for a name stamp in ink or wax for a seal. My guess on mine is about 100 yrs old. Maybe they are perfume(?) or morphine bottles, but here again I don't know when morphine was developed. I don't remember the comments on mine & leave it up to you to ck out.

Observe & learn. One can only get advice(guesses) from the pics & descriptions given or received but it is nothing like an on the spot inspection.

hmmm ok.. that is great information. One question, when you say modern reproduction, what dates are we talking about? Is it still old?
You both have been a great help!
