    Another "home run".
I found this listed at $75. and thought even though they don't know it's Loetz it must be damaged.
I wrote to the seller asking about condition. He replied "perfect unused condition and you can have it for $50. !!!

I think my Karma is to pay full price or more for every piece I acquire! Not sure why but it is certainly a journey.

LD : I got this piece for nothing BUT I have also over paid many times.

I almost never pay the going rate for things. But that's only if you look at what I take out of my pocket and give the seller. When you count in the hours I spend sifting, the hours I've spent researching and the thousands I've spent on research I am not sure where I stand in terms of actual output.
Getting bargains doesn't happen in a vacuum and I certainly do not feel bad about it.

While I don't mind sharing my knowledge with others, that's not the primary reason I've gone to the trouble to learn this field and I certainly don't feel the need to go out of my way (and shoot myself in the foot) to share with someone who cares little enough to put something on ebay without taking the time to figure it out before selling it. I am not really an altruist. I am interested in helping fellow collectors, but not sellers who can't be bothered.

My daily ebay search is takes about two hours a night and sometimes I spend a few hours more doing other random searches and that's not including the time I spend looking stuff up every day.

So while you may end up paying more for individual pieces, I am guessing your time means a lot more to you :) it's really all a trade-off.

I think most of us on CW probably spend the same amount of time or more searching for good buys as well as opportunities to add to our collections. It is usually only a matter of timing as to who will click the BIN button first! LOL

I also do a ton of research and have found that many sellers are quick to pick up new information that will help add value to a sale. It only took two weeks after I had posted a new discovery of a rare decor on the (back door of the) new Loetz.com site to find an example of it pop up on Ebay identified correctly per my research. That piece cost me dearly to acquire!

I enjoy the research I do, the hours I spend, the information I learn and connecting with colleagues who share their findings with me. I am not an altruist but if my time and effort helps others learn more about this amazing glass and/or makes them money because of my contributions, then great!

I think that was bad luck. they must have known what they were doing. sounds like they already knew it was loetz but wanted to try and figure out which pattern. Some sellers are collectors to and do their homework.

I wasn't trying to say you didn't spend time on this. Please forgive me if that's how I came across. I was just assuming that you probably weren't spending hours a day sifting thru ugly fenton listings for the good piece labeled incorrectly labeled fenton (as an example) because often that's where you get the good deals.

I responded the way I did because it seemed like there was a little bit of implication in that there was somehow something morally wrong with not paying more. On re-reading it seems like you might have been lamenting that you never get the 50 dollar buy it nows.

OWL : I don't think it was "bad luck" to find a perfect Loetz Medici for $50.

I was referring to Loetzdance having someone find her new identification on a backdoor site just a little while after it was put up and then having to pay for the nose for it.
