A real beauty, produced by Buffalo China for The Hotel Lafayette, of Buffalo. The color of this item is that of Buffalo China's Cafe-Au-Lait Line. And luckily, as the picture indicates, I have obtained a matchbook cover from The Lafayette.
From the backstamp, it can be determined that this object was produced in the 1940s. It still looks great today!
The Lafayette has a rich and inspiring history. It fell into disrepair a few years ago, but a developer came up with the cash to restore it to its former grandeur.
Lucky to find a matchbook to go with it, just wouldn't be the same without it!
I didn't know they made ashtrays like this.
Yes, walksoftly, that matchbook makes all of the difference. I was very blessed to have won the matchbook in an Ebay auction!
It is an interesting ashtray...from the size of the rests, it looks like it was made to hold cigars!
Buffalo China made a lot of interesting ceramic items, of which I have a few, and should post in the future. I like collecting their items.
Buffalo China has an interesting history, too.
Thank you for your kind comment on this ashtray....
