Large English wickers Flat top steamer trunk or old mill skip
Has been in the family for 125 years since late 1800's (1880-1900)
was used during World war I
Measurements : 36 inches L x 22 inches W x 22 inches H
The construction is in heavy wicker with what looks like a bamboo or wood pole frame
Has two wood skid slats on the base for ease of movement around the docks or in the mill
The lid fastens with the rope that slides through two chain links on the sides and front.
The lid is secured to the bottom with the 3 iron hinges and a metal bar at the back
Handles are of heavy grade rope, bound solidly into the weave of the trunk
would appreciate more details such as manufacturer (no markings of any kind whatsoever), does these trunks had any lining originally since there are no sign of canvas lining.
Thanks
