This was a toy that I used to play with when I was a little girl. My dad has a passion for antiques and my brother and I each had our own pedal car (mine being the fire truck). My son, who is 8 months old, likes to stand by the car and ding the bell. I know that it is a Murray but I don't have any idea what year or the possible dollar value. If anyone has any comments on the value and/or year I would love to hear them. It still works and I can't wait for my son to be able to enjoy this toy as much as I did!

i know this sounds bad to u but please please put it away and keep it away from your son far as dollar value i can't give you one but i do know it worth quite a bit more than a would trust a little boy with
my best guess would be worth at least $400 + (but I'm no appraiser either )

It's not in perfect condition, but I wouldn't let a baby play with it either. Even though it has obviously been played with, it is in Good+ condition. Any pedal car collector or fire truck collector would be thrilled to have this piece in their collection. I am a collector of toy cars and fire trucks and if I were a buyer for this item, I would be at about $300 in this condition. It's a great piece.

Also, I would say this piece was manufactured possibly late '50s but probably '60s.

Rebuttal ! number one: it's your, do what you wish with it. number 2: It's a toy ! it6 was meant to be played with and enjoyed, let your son have something besides video games !. number three, It can always be repaired and or restored later....sometimes love has to trump money and I Love It........I hope your son does too..:-)

I appreciate all the input but I can't keep this toy away from my son. He LOVES it!!! He is learning to walk and can climb in and out of the seat and walk behind the steering wheel. He is so proud of himself when he gets across the room. He enjoys this toy as much as I did growing up and I hope I can pass it down to him someday! Thanks again!!

let the kid play with it. You know, there's a reason those things are worth money and 100% plastic Big Wheels are not. Metal pedal cars are FUN! If there is a concern about "preservation" find a cheap beat up one and give it a nice new coat of bright paint. If the kid is into these little cars, I'll bet they pick the shiny one. The old switcheroo.

I completely agree with you guys that this was made to be played with! These pedal cars were made well and there is no question they are MUCH better quality than any similar ride-ons made in the last 20 years. All I meant was I wouldn't let my 15 month old anywhere near it, but as I said before I'm a collector and I would probably have the item restored. At the same time, if the kiddo loves it I couldn't take it away from him either..... Just wouldn't have let him fall in love with it in the first place! Enjoy the fire truck for many years! These are some of the best and most valuable pedal cars you will find.

I just finished restoring my old fire chief pedal car and I used the same decals you havc on yours. Mine has also in the family for 50 years and was enjoyed as well as beatup. After a mild restoration I used mine for 15 years as a photo studio prop.
I felt like she had worked long enough so now she has had a full restoration back to almost new and she will never work another day in her life. She's retired, she's a trailer Queen now!

I am looking at a B&W picture of me and my brand new pedal truck taken in 1960. It looks exactly like yours --- except new. The toy is something I truly cherished and remember to this day -- I am now 56. I asked for, and recently received, a couple of pics of the fire truck from my mom. I was looking online in hopes of purchasing the cherished toy of my childhood. Your son will love it -- maybe for a lifetime.

I have tons of pictures and info on these Murray pedal cars. the best way to date it is to look at all the catalogs and find the closest one that looks like yours> murrayeliminatormusclebikes.yuku.com/forums/74/Wheel-Goods-catalogs/Wheel-Goods-catalogs#.Uu44C9GPIrk
