I picked up these two old Lightning Rod Balls today from a Second Hand shop nearby. The owner had been allowed to rummage through a basement storage of a 150 year old church and had picked three of these and an assortment of old HOLOPHANE shades. I had dealt with Holophane items before but I had never come across opaque turquoise Lightning Rod Balls. Are there catalogues or specific info. on these old Blown glass items? Would anyone know who could have made them? Should I have bought the other one that had small chips to the fitter end on one side? He also had very large "saturn-shaped" holophane shades that maybe I should go back and purchase tomorrow. I did purchase a couple of unique fluted-rim, "bridge lamp" size Holophane shades. I still have a problem with "self-procrastination" and I understand that it is a common affliction with many collectors...lol. Thanks everyone, RER (LOUMANAL)
Love your lightning rod balls! Check out my collection.

Thanks BELLIN68, mustangtony and officialfuel. That's quite an eclectic collection Michael...looks like you collect and keep everything. Do you know anything about these old lightning rod balls? BOB
I was able to find this wonderful site on Lightning Rod Balls that pretty well answered all my questions. Here it is for your perusal! BOB (LOUMANAL)

Thanks mustangtony! That moon & star one is quite special! and thanks toolate2, mtg75, czechman and trukn20 for the Love. I did go back and get the chipped one so now there are three. Once I get the large Saturn Holophane shades cleaned-up, I'll upload them on this site. They were some of the first lampshades in use in this old church. RER (LOUMANAL)
