    I don't quite understand what this portrait is..can anyone tell me? it's not an original...VanDyke died in 1641...this is dated 1841...value?

      1841 means it was a later printing of the original. They would have had the original plate and kept making more as time goes by. Dave

      Again DizzyDave great info...I would of never known any of that...so is it a print you say? not an etching? that part kind of confuses me....also any idea of value?

      No , its a etching but done at a later date. If you look up history of Rembrandt etchings you will hear, First state, second state, so on. As time went by, the plate would loose some of its details, so someone would go back and retouch the copper plate and make another run. Van Dyke was back in the 1600's would have been first state, this was done in the 1800 by another using his old plates. Dave

      any kind of value? or is it something that an appraiser needs to look at...we are getting ready for an estate sale..do you think maybe we should take both this print and the picasso print to a reputable art gallery?...Just not sure quite what to do

      First states are selling for 300.00-500.00, so I would say 100.00-150.00. Dave
