I recently received these half dolls as part of a inheritance. I know nothing of them other than they are all very old and collectible. I would appreciate any info and possible value for insurance purposes. A great Aunt collected them and they were divided between several nieces. These are the eight I received.

Beautiful German Half dolls ! These were often sewn onto a pin cushion , They are made of china and are very collectible . The more fancy and deco the better , The one in Green I would love to see better photo of. Prices vary on these girls so one I am showing you is more likely to be more common to find . Some will go higher . The other look like Trinket boxes . Are any marked ? A wonderful collection !

Half dolls are just that--generally, the upper half of a human figure, without legs. Half dolls were produced without legs so that they could be attached to something useful--very commonly, pin cushions, but also wisk brooms, tea cozies, and numerous things that could grace a ladies dressing table, such as powder boxes.

Half Dolls - Years of Production:

The vast majority of Half Dolls were produced between 1900 and the 1920s, although some were produced earlier than that and some later. Some half dolls are still reproduced today.

      Companies That Produced Half Dolls:

Most half dolls were produced in Germany, by firms such as Dressel & Kister, F. W. Goebel, Ernst, Bohne & Sohne, Heubach, Hertwig, Karl Schnider and many others. Japan also flooded the market with inexpensive models. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porcelain-Half-Doll-Pincushion-Doll-with-Corset-/370823520865?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5656cde261
