My grandfather gave my grandmother a bracelet back in the 1930s from his travels to asia in the Navy. It's a sterling silver cuff with a design cut into the metal. The design is a number of little characters like a bird, horse, flowers, little men, some look to be carrying items or just dressed in what looks like Japanese clothing. I'm just curious what all the characters mean. Thx!
any marks on the inside? can you post clearer images?
There are no marks on the inside. I will take some closer pictures this evening and post them. Thank you!
great. Looks to be more from southeast asia or india to me, from the little I can tell.
Hi, I added better pictures. Hopefully it helps. Thx!
After scrubbing off the bracelet I found two holes in the back that I thought were rivets. After using a toothpick, I've found what looks like two japanese artist marks that look like characters in the japanese language.
wow - well done! hope someone recognizes the characters. I can't tell if they're Japanese or Chinese, but the style of the figures just doesn't seem Japanese to me.
Something about those swirling shapes - see the image here (found doing a google image search with "antique chinese silver bracelet figures"): http://remote.bruneauantiques.com/photos/130531/DSC07661.JPG
this seems even closer to yours: http://ancientpoint.com/inf/89888-great_antique__vintage_well_marked_scenic_chinese_carved_silver_bracelet.html
