Here is the story behind this bracelet......I was recently given a bag of jewelry form my mother's friend that was needless to say, 99%junk EXCEPT low and behold, 9 of the most beautiful pieces of Dragon's Breath I have personally laid my eyes upon. I did not enhance the color of the photos, that is really what these stones look like!I have scoured the internet trying to find these stones in a rectangular shape and in a gold setting but to no avail. What are the chances of these being in a huge bag of junk? The links were all separate and I am uncertain of the metal in the links but when I took it to an antique dealer friend of mine, she said they looked like real gold! I did clean it well because the links were filthy. When I was finished, I connected all the links using gold filled jump rings and added a vintage gold filled clasp. I would love to know the value of something like this. My friend who is a dealer told me at least $350-400 and if it is in fact gold, obviously much more......I welcome any feedback or info if anyone else has any info regarding these amazing stones
This is indeed valuable and in great shape. I would say your friend is correct in what they said. We on CW cannot price out pieces here and its against the rules. I have sold a bracelet like this and know all about DB. They are a form of art Glass in the Deco Era. Good find!!! Welcome to CW!
Thank you to Moonstonelover21 and bratjdd for the Welcome to CW! Moonstonelover21, The bracelet you posted a link to is the ONLY other one I have seen with the rectangular shaped Dragons Breath stones!!! Have you ever seen any like mine set in gold? I have yet to find anything.....Also, thank you for the head's up on the rules. I wasn't sure. I will be posting more things here today. Thank you again!
I had personally owned one that I sold on eBay a couple of years ago and it went for a good amount. They r not common and usually melted down for scrap. The site I took you to was my own site that I sell for a high end jewelry store. About 1/4 are mine. I have been in the business for a few years. It's my passion and love.
Just to let you know that IF your bracelet is gold and not gold filled it was not a good idea to put gold filled links in. If you we're to sell the bracelet it would under value the bracelet a lot. And the links r not saudered. I work with one of the best antique jewelry restorers in the nation. And I was slapped on the wrist for doing exactly what I did :0. I hope this helps
Moonstonelover21,
I am definitely aware of the notion that one should not mix gold with gold filled. The only reason I did so this time was a more of a personal choice because I wanted to see what the links looked like as a bracelet. If I wanted to ever sell it, I know I would need to take it to a jeweler. The thing is, if it is gold, unfortunately I would most likely NOT be able to afford to spend the money it would cost to make it a sellable piece. So, I will just enjoy what I have and continue to wear these stunning links as they are. Oh and I am making a pair of earrings from the remaining 2 that have links and would eventually like to have the one with no setting, made into a ring.....
I have no info, just a huge "holy cr*p that is gorgeous!"
Really, WOW! I love it! I never heard of Dragon's Breath before today, and now I'm amped to learn more about it. Truly an awesome piece, whether set in gold or not!
That is just beautiful! I have a friend that just posted a pic to my FB after we were discussing my necklace, the Dragon's Breath only more orange/copper colored stones. She posted a picture to me of a bracelet she has, only in not as near a good of shape as this one is, BUT, it is the same bracelet!! I told her to join and find your name & see your picture! :-)
