Our ELNA collection contains "4" variations of the "Grasshopper" w/ unique & varied cases, w/ tools, speed reducers, oilers, and manuals. They are very "Special" little Swiss machines. They date from 1938-1952.

My parents had an Elna sewing machine, purchased in Brazil in the 1950's most likely. They were proud of their little Swiss machine. A true workhorse, used for years. I learned to sew on it. Alas, it is gone. Not sure where it ended up. Hey, perhaps in your collection!

Very nice group. I did not know there were "4" variations until I saw these!
      Thank you

My mother found a grasshopper on a flee market and bought it for me (€12!). But it has another case than the 4 pictured here. It is the same shape as the third from the left, but has the same colour as the second one. The machine looks like the last two.

Im trying to find out what mechanical differences in the last series are, but any information is hard to find. As are some parts (it didn't came with all feet).

I was pleasantly suprised to come by your photo's, so nice to see the different models next to eachother.

      Regards.

I just purchased a Grasshopper. It came with a black plastic/metal speed reducer. I'm not totally sure, but it does not fit on the machine? It pops on to the two spindles but will not lock into the gears to mesh the the reducer's gears with those on the wheel. It just sits in front. This is hard to explain, but I think it should lock in or sit back more? Is there an adjustment to be made with the hand wheel to move it out of the way? The manual pictures look as though the spindles poke through the reducer and stick out. Mine just doesn't line up? Any clue?

I have an old Elna Grasshopper. But I should like to have (by) a reduction gear. Also an manual. By of course..

Can someone help me with that?
