As a kid of about 15 yrs with some friends, we were cutting thru a neighbour's back yard & I noticed the profile of the top step of a rock walk was moving. I stopped my friends & went to investigate. It was a 4 1/2 ft diamond-back. My friends kept it in sight while I knocked on the door of the people's house. A woman came & I told her what was in her yard & asked if they had a gun. She brought me a shotgun & I blew the head off the rattler. That was about 1956 & these are the trophy. Not good in a residential area. I even cleaner their gun before leaving.
What cat. does one put this in??
cool story!
Certainly wasn't expecting this much response! Thanks gang.
Well gang, guess our message got through!
Should the make a sub-category animal parts?lol
Did they rattle? I just woke up & will try to do better as the day progresses.
I don't know but it's different & what a nice thing to do good on you.
Well you stopped so maybe it belongs in stop signs. Otherwise send it to the HELP section because if you don't stop then you need help. Thanks for sharing.
I have one I took a few years back that I placed in a creviced, vine twisted staff...delicate but neat.....of course, I ran over the turkey with my car......gun sounds better
goat testicals? I knew I discovered an interesting site here.....LOL
OMGosh! LOL when I saw this rattle! I recently got my own such trophy, but wasn't real happy about it.....We heard the -very loud- rattle sound about 10 feet from our house(SW Florida) in the palmetto jungle. I tossed a rock at the sound and Mooky, our tabby teen kitten ran from the brush! Guess the rock toss saved his life. (how's the saying go??? curiosity killed the cat) Anyway, shotgun blast to the head and it measured 5-1/2 feet with a big fat girth! waited for several hours and took a scissor to the rattles. thanks for sharing!
There are 2 sounds you don't forget. A gun being made ready & that of an irritated rattler.
Add a third blunder...the chuckle of a big buck goat in rut and yes if you turn your back to him the will be rattlin !!!
Haven't been exposed to that one Hedge, so can't put in on my own list.
LOL.....funny
Funny how early training & experience conditions one for life. I haven't lived where their are poisonous snakes for 42 yrs, - but it is still in my mind when I get into high grass or around rocky places with shade. I remind myself of the facts, but it is still there.
LOL...being from KS all I had to worry about was a water snake wrapping around my ankle in high brush...maybe a Moccasin since I creek wade, or snapping turtle...talk about having the shivers. But I also was always aware of all native animals when going to other states....and rattling was a sound I knew I did NOT want to hear........now maybe also a buck goat in rutting season?
Yeah. A "Ssssssssss" sound in the grass isn't welcome either. Don't care what they say on the nature channels. We used to wade up to our arms in streams & shoot moccasins when they swam out toward us. Guess we were too young & stupid!
Legally, in some states, that might be the story we want to recall, Blunderbuss...LOL
I'm glad we don't have them here we have enough deadly snakes
So do we...we don't call them rattlers here, even as noisy as they get, we call them politicians...........
Politicians/ rattlers? A/O, I fail to catch your drift? Rattlers have scaly skin. Haven't you noticed? Thinking about it, that's not a fool-proof method!
LOL....see?
AboundingOddities yeah we also have those type of snakes in the grass always wondering were there money is coming from how about they have a pay cut instead of triple taxing us or cutting back our pensions. The trouble with that if we shoot them thats murder so get all those darn rattlers.
(I wonder how much it costs to send some airmail?) For the legal eagles out there with scopes on my forehead...just joking ;-)
Well I hope this gives you a lol the other day they stopped a plane for a snake that was about 8 inches if that.
LOL......at their prices, I would sneak on too....good one, Zowie
Think I have another "run-away" posting!
23 and counting, Just like a run away train, Choo-Choo, train's a coming..............
There were only 3 comments made on this before 19 days ago & then it went wild. Seems that the mention of snakes reminds people more of politicians than reptiles. Well, both are venomous & can't be trusted!
Make me wanna reconsider that election thing next year now, I might have the gift of gab, but always consider myself to be trustworthy. :-)
The only way to go what is your other run away. If you say kids ask them how much will it cost for them to keep going. just a lol
You're right Zowie, but I have noticed that I'm not the only 1 who has had run-aways. Also, kerry, there always seems to be a before & after morality. LOL
Run away? Hey, ya'all this things so long my fingers couldn't do that m,uch walking, no matter how much ma bell wants them to. It's neat to come to these and see the humor in life while antiquing
Lucas, LOL. My morals have always been a point of question. Seems the "norm" doesn't quite agree with my thinking, but that's not all bad, at least not in my viewpoint ;-)
Kerry, I'm a believer in natural selection. Who ever comes up with the most money, is my natural selection!
I some what agree, but I always use the "Golden Rule"..... He who has all the gold, makes the rules
If I use that, do I have to pay royalties?
Feel FREE to use as needed :-)
40 comments, and rising :-)
So many Bot-ta-Bings there...not sure when the Bot-ta-boom's a coming
Hey AboundingOddities the bottom may not fall out we good keep giving it a lol spirit for who know how long. LOL is not a phrase I'm use to. blunderbuss2 I have never had a runaway.
