Found this gorgeous sterling overlay cobalt vase. I am thinking it's made by one of the old West Virginia factories but after looking through several books I cannot identify this floral pattern. If you know the name, can you please let me know. Thank you so much.

Very often, the company that applied the silver decoration is different than the one that bought it. For example, L.E. Smith bought glass blanks from several different American glass manufacturers (Heisey, Fostoria, Cambridge, etc.) and applied thier own etches, overlays, etc.

While this may or may not be the case with your vase, I think it is something you may want to consider. The glass blank form reminds me of Cambridge, Morgantown, Imperial, or one of those types of companies. It may proove easier to identify if you focus on the blank, and ignore the overlay.

      Just a thought ...

Thank you for the information and comments. Yes, I will search for the shape but it's driving me crazy since I am SURE I have seen it in one of my books. And yes Justanovice, it is a wonderful old cobalt blue.

I have found this same vase (blank) in cobalt blue with colorless handles identified by sellers on eBay as Cambridge, Morgantown, Imperial, Paden City, and Louie. Sadly, I have been unable to narrow the field, or even confirm it to be one of those 5.

pictures are too dark, can't see the base, no shots where you can see the entire vase.

Without these things (except for in certain circumstances) determining who where what why and how is impossible without this information.

Thanks to all of you! Greatsnowowl I looked up the vase you described and it is the same blank. So now I know it is a West Virginia Glass blank with a gorgeous sterling overlay. I may never find out the name of the pattern, but it sure is pretty.
