This is an 1880s copy image from an original Civil War era photograph.
The soldier wears the full uniform of a Union Cavalryman-- yellow piped shell jacket, boots with pants tucked in and an 1860 cavalry saber along with belt and scabbard.
On the back he is identified to Louis (Lewis) Blasius of the 5th PA Cav. While he enlisted in SEP 64, Blasius fought in almost 30 small engagements in Virginia.
