This is something I picked up today and Amber told me to get it!!!! Thank you Amber!!! This (5 1/2x3 3/4") small black porcelain cookie jar features gray, blue and white speckles of ceramic "sand" representing the lunar surface covering outside of jar. This delightful ceramic was made by Helen Garriott, wife of Skylab 3 Pilot Owen Garriott and is titled "Earthrise" in reference to the famous Apollo 8 photograph. The top handle on the lid is fashioned in the shape of the earth, which surmounts the lower portion of the jar shaped like the Moon. On the "Moon's" surface are the various lunar mare, with a pair of astronaut footprints near the Sea of Tranquility. Mrs. Garriott made several sizes of these jars in different configurations-this is the smallest size she produced as far as we know." The jar is in excellent condition?
FYI: update Eye4Beauty found the whole link to finding all the information about this jar! If it were not for Eye, ...I would have given up even looking for anything in glassware!!!
The top knob looks like the earth; you can see continents.

The crazy thing is that my Bella was born in Florida and we saw the space Shuttle go up at least 8 times while living there!!!! This is close to my heart!!! I think I am on cloud 9!!!!! Finally a cool find with history! Thank you Sista!!! U had excellent hunch! I saw it on the shelf going yucky colour! And who would want this thing!!! Sigh...:)))) XOXOXOXO Sista!!!

JH, I cannot believe I found a funky black jar like this!!! You are right about not listening to ignorant/silly people(family). I am slowly learning to phase there voice out! But that will take time away and healing the hurts they have caused to my children and myself. XOXOXOXO for you being you!!!!
Eye, can I tell you a funny story? One day I asked my Dad if I was pretty or beautiful like my Mother. My Dad looked at me and said "Oh no your Mother is a Beauty! And you do not look like her at all! You are what I would call Handsome!" So I believe I am not gold...but I do glitter!!! :))))) LOL Sorry about the silly twist I just made up at the end!!! I have learned not to listen to what he was saying either! thanks for reading! :)
