Out at estate sale and came across this oak piece. Lady said it was her grandmothers but didn't know what it was and either do I. Just know I love oak furniture and knew where it was going in the house. Wondering if it came off the top of a dental cabinet?

I have a cousin to this and it was called a medicine cabinet at an auction 30 years ago. Mine isn't in as good shape and doesn't have the decorative vertical columns and has never found a proper setting. Yours is great!

omg! This is awesome. Are there shelves inside? Compartments? Are there any signs that it was attached to anything? I am just so curious, this is a very handsome piece, and I say way to go! lucky you ;)

Thank you hotkitties! There are shelves inside. No one has said but I believe it was a top to something. As always thank you again for your kind comments! :-) Have a great weekend.

I think this was a medicine cabinet. But on the chance you are right about it coming off of something, Iwould examine the back and bottom and look for signs of screw holes that would have resulted from attaching to something else. Works nice the way tou are using it.

Another lovely piece! I can see what you mean that it does look like it might well have been part of something else. But I can also see it above a sink or wash stand too. It's a great find and like you, I love oak furniture. I love the fact that you 'live' with yours like we do, you don't just keep it in a building or room somewhere out of sight like a lot of people do. Thanks for showing this great cabinet!

I think it def would have had a base because of the balance. It you think of Armoires which often came in two or three parts sometimes the top part on yours comes off. The cabinet looks top heavy it would more likely have had a base that the footer match the top.

Have you considered it could have been on top of a wash basin or a double wash basin so his and hers or his and his or hers and hers, just trying to capture the market!

I know nothing of American early furniture but in English and French antiques they always balance. The beading looks lovely and those small drawers are beautiful. Is it veneered, if so it's been done well....?
