The doll belonged to my grandmother and has been passed down to me. To my knowledge she is over 100 years old and is in very good condition. The identifying information is under the garments on the doll's back. When I tried to move them to see the label, the bottom garment began to disintegrate. It's almost like it is glued. Is there a safe way to accomplish this? I'm sure any kind of damage would diminish the value of the doll.
Hi your German Bisque doll is on a kid leather body . You should be able to get under leather and gently pull it down to see maker . Since there were many many makers in Germany I need to see mark. What I think I see and you can clarify is a COD on back ? if so she would be . She would date end of 1890's to 1910 . She is what we call a dolly face. She has glass eyes that seem stationary do the close ? Her wig has been replaced and to make her more correct I would get a old one to put on her of mohair or human hair and she is also re dressed in newer clothes which are not correct to her age . She is a wonderful treasure to have passed down in family . Let me know if your seeing the mark I think I see COD ok

The Dressel family toy and doll business in Sonneberg, Germany has a long history and operated for a very long time, it passed from one generation to the next, by 1873 the company was known as the Cuno & Otto Dressel Factory.
Dressel purchased bisque doll heads from noted manufacturers such as: Simon & Halbig, Ernst Heubach, Gebruder Heubach, Limbach and Armand Marseille. They expanded to three factories in which; dolls were produced in Sonneberg, metal toys in Nurnberg and wood toys in Grunhainichen, Germany.
Cuno & Otto Dressel were very prolific producers of dolls and toys. The Dressel company used many different markings; letters of S., D., C, ED, symbol of a winged helmet, initials of C.O.D. - and for those searching the internet - doll mark COD = Cuno & Otto Dressel initials, found on antique do
Oh that is not a under garment it is her body your seeing . A tiny tear does not decrease value . A crack on head or any chips is what decreases the value . The German Dolly Bisque dolls have fallen in price so keep her to pass on in family :-)
