Antique Georgian Copper Candlesticks. This is a pair I picked up today at SA for $15.00 And they are lovely! They have had some saudering done to them and whoever had them must have loved them...or would not have had them fixed so many times. When I saw them I fell in love with them and could not put them down. They SA originally wanted $12.50 each. I knew the cashier and haggled him down. Despite that they were just put out. What do you think? I paid $15 for both????
FYI:
Eye4Beauty found the information to the mystery of these candlesticks!!! I am soo happy to have found them..and I had a hunch that these were Antiques!!! Eye, with his sleuthing found the answer! Eye has an incredible Eye for information on not only Glassware...now Antiques!!!! Of any Era..XOXOXOXOXO
Eye, no they are not.... :)
They seem to be a silver with a copper base...
But the hallmarks seem old....
Yes....is that bad? Are they cheap? OR New?
I think that these are old..and that the previous owners had so much work done to them at different times that the silversmith just plated them...actually they look to be plated with Copper one time. I have looked online and could not find ones like these except the really Antique candlesticks...what do you think? Did I flub or are they Antique? They are truly very lovely and I know why the owners had them fixed a few times. They beautiful even in there state.....lol
Eye, OMG that's what they look like if mint!!! Except mine has the scroll work!!! Gorgeous!!! U are amazing!!!
Eye, are these candlesticks rare? I wish I knew more about them. A lot of fine antique came in the same time as these sticks. I was awestruck looking at them. How should I clean them? I like the patina on them. Should I get them fixed?
Eye, I won't touch them! I will await your thoughts on them. I just eBay'd Georgian Candlesticks and found a bunch of them with the scrollwork! So I think you are correct in the Era. But still nothing like these...except for the English ones you found. The patina on them is almost a rich rosy/Red copper ....lovely.
Eye, that is the scrollwork for one of them!!! WOW...they are gorgeous!!! Do you think this is copper plated with silver plate underneath? OR a lower grade Silver? With the hallmarks....I am so happy I bought them!!!
Eye, I am just guessing about copper plating. They seem to me to be solid Copper. The scrollwork is more intricate with these. I believe they are Georgian in Era though. I think they got smashed and was fixed at some point! They do have dings and not perfect!
mustangtony, thank you for the loving!!!
Eye, neither have I!!! I was just guessing and blubbering on like I know nothing about Antiques....which I don't :0 Only jewelry!!! I know in jewelry we can plate sterling and gold. That's all I know.
Amber, thank you for the loving!!! XOXOXOXOXO
Eye, so you think this was handmade and there is a seam on the candlesticks that looks like this was a sheet of Copper and hand tooled and rolled around the stem of the candlestick. If that helps any.....very well made.
bratjdd, thank you for the loving!!!
kerry10456, thank you for the loving and attention XOXOXOX
My thoughts are that these could be old copper candlesticks that would have been silver plated as in old ‘Sheffield Plate’ that is why the base is silvered, the rest would have been polished off over time.
The solder marks might have been original as wouldn’t have been seen, of course could have been broken and re-soldered over the years especially that one on the left but! the other one looks original, hard to say without actually having them in your hands. Just a thought anyway!...:-)…Sheffield Plate can be worth as much and sometimes more than solid silver, if you could work out the marks… I think they are beautiful and wouldn’t care ether!
These are lovely. I like the eclecticism of unmatched candlesticks!
Eye, you are amazing and wonderful!!! I really respect you!!! Thank you!!!
JH, thank you ...but the stores in my area a really picked clean! The workers are experts and I think the only reason why this was put out was because it was damaged and not mint! I do not care that its not mint! I loved the feeling they gave me being around them. I could not put them down! I was in love! I saved horses and animals and I love to find pieces that need rescuing. Even jewelry that has been damaged and I pay to fix them. If it does not cost me more than I can afford. LOL! XOXOXOXOXO
inky, I believe you are right about Sheffield and that it is plated. I love them and will pass them down to my daughters. These are going into my new bedroom in my new place with my daughters...somewhere wonderful!
