Don't know anything about this sign. I have four of these in my old barn. My grandfather supposedly bought them many, many years ago in an auction. I was able to drag this one out and clean it up a little. The other three are a little harder to get to. The thing that really stands out about it is the size. It is 92.5" x 44.5" ...nearly 4'x8'. Just wanted to know how rare or collectible these are. I don't know anything about them, but they are very neat. Condition isn't great, but not horrible. As shown in the second picture it's from the Donaldson Art Sign Co from Covington, KY. Thanks.
Looks like you have some 1957 Barqs signs if they all have the same date at the bottom. The 5-57 is May of 1957.
Be very careful if you decide to clean these but if you are going to sell them, leave the cleaning up to the new owner.
Very cool Barn find and your grandpa was cool long before his time if he was collecting stuff like this. Thanx for sharing!
BTW- I have a OLD Orange Crush sign that is about 3 feet tall and 8 feet wide. When they are this size they were probably used for a state fair or rodeo or some large event where they would hang these around the concession stands. If they are all the same graphic, then they more than likely came from some large event in the summer of 1957 somewhere close to where the auction was held and with some digging you might find a picture of those signs at the event. Good luck.
This will clean up a lot from current state. These large signs were also mounted on buildings, but must not have been outside for too long to still have the orig. wood frame, they are usually long gone. Very cool sign, I'd love to find one of these!!
Thanks so much for the replies and information. That's very helpful. Yes, the wooden frame is in great shape. Now I've just got to go dig the other 3 signs out of the barn. I'm going to search local event from 1957 and see what I come up with.
