I am inclined to say this is a biscuit jar. But it runs on the small side. It measures 5" across and is 2 1/2" deep. All the designs are in a hand painted gold outline and inside the outline is hand painted lavender. It has what looks like to me chrome plated handle and lid. The only markings on the piece are on the bottom and very faded. It looks to be only numbers and I can see what I think is 228. Any infor would be appreciated.

I also seen where this could just be a sweetmeat jar.
