    Made in Mexico
Has Miguel M. Garcia casted in the arm along with the specs listed above
This is the smaller of the corn grinders in my family. My mother has the larger one.. We used this one to grind the corn into masa to use in making Tomalies. When my mom received her larger one from my grandmother she gave this one to me.

Is Miguel M. Garcia the creator and how old is this?

A bit off base but related. When it is said that corn meal is treated with lime for tortillas, what for of lime is that & what does it do? Wondered for yrs.

OK, walks, that was very informative & answered my long sought question. So the Aztecs & other Indian tribes developed this process that eliminates malnutrition from eating corn 1200-1500 yrs BC & the Honky's took this maize back with them but not the lime process technology. And us Honky's called them stupid savages?! Now, since this process obviously has an effect on corn meal sticking together to make tortillas, is regular corn meal we buy lacking in nutrients since it won't stick together properly for tortillas. When I was shipping from Isla de Margarita, I would get the Captain to bring me the correct masa harina for tortillas.

Do I? Do I gather & burn shells or use ashes from certain woods? That link didn't exactly tell you how to do it at home on a small scale. Friend from CO brought me 5 lbs, so I'm good for now. At least I know the process now & thanks for helping explain.
