The smaller bowl/vase I purchased in 2001. It measures 5 inches tall. The tall one is a piece that I ended up trading for, including passing on the smaller Ast vase in the transaction. I really wanted to have one that showed the decor better, and in an Art Nouveau form. This is also large enough and functional enough to use on occasion for flowers, which I will do. Orange Ast glass is basically glass that is blown into a Rusticana decor mold, then plunged in water to give it the crackle effect. Then it was reheated to seal the cracks, and blown out slightly to accentuate the cracks further. It's not a flashy Loetz decor, but it showed good technique.

The taller vase is a full 12 inches tall. Both have polished pontils. The shape of the tall one is likely from Series I, as I have seen 3 different decors in this shape (Ast, Cytisus, crackle Formosa), with various indentations on them, but none of them are seen in the Loetz/Series II book.

Beautiful! I have been looking for Astglas for a long time now. The big one is fantastic. I have seen Formosa in the same shape. Thanks for the info on the manufacturing techniques.

I really like this decor especially in the more art nuveau forms..its one of those sneaky nice pieces. Much better in hand as I like to say.

similar to Durand Moorish Crackle...not as much depth of color but hey it was 20 years before Durand!

Thanks for confirming my suspicions about the "zero feedback" guy. I noticed not only that they had zero feedback, but that they used three different style photos for three auctions, including the Loetz which had a photo I recognized. I hope no one has bid big on the Loetz!

It's not the bids that matter. He'll end the auction early, and then offer the vase to all the bidders for $2k-$3k, and tell them they can use an escrow service that he will provide. I messaged with the German eBayer who was taken for $3k by him on an earlier auction. If eBay won't take our reports of fraudulent auctions seriously, then there is nothing we can do but watch him repeatedly rip off people. If eBay would pull the auction, he would no longer have access to the bidders.

Btw, copy and paste the auction description into Google search, and it will come up with the auction it was stolen from.

Wow, and I thought they were dumb before. But it does show that one picture is not enough, especially when pictures are so easy to steal on the internet.

He only lists his auctions with 4 photos, but he reserves some to make people think he has the vase in his possession. You'll notice he doesn't show the pontil, but of course he is saving a photo of it for when he is asked for one.

Hey guys, you're talking about this "zero feedback" guy, but I see there's a lot of information missing. Can you tell more abut it or where you commenting about it in another CW posting? I think everybody here should know about this guy...

It's the Hofstötter vase with the silver overlay. Rare Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Loetz Phänomen Art Glass Vase-Franz Hofstötter

It appears that eBay may have pulled the auction already, which is better than the seller ending it early and then being able to message the bidders. It still shows up in the list of Loetz eBay auctions that comes up when you open the CW Loetz category.
