One of my favorite keepsakes is this vintage 1956(?) RCA Model 8-TR-3 Reel to Reel player. The unit still works quite well for its age, i've tried to take good care of it, my grandfather purchased this unit at the employee discount rate while he worked for RCA. On one of the reel to reel tapes I have he has written "My first tape, 12/12/56".

This unit is a monster and has to weigh at least 40lbs! But a nice piece all the same!!

I Just bought one today and am trying to figure the darn thing out. It came with two reels with some pre-recorded music. The unit itself seems really loud and I'm fumbling to get an understanding of all the settings. I am trying to get it to record but it isn't working well. Any advise on what could be wrong? The tubes all seem to be working.
