Just curious as to what this really is!
Got a $20, haul away whatever you want deal. Couldnt pass this HEAVY monster up, I have repurposed it into a birdbath - used a cement form to set down inside. The center of the "bowl" has a machined hole about 4 inches in diameter. Cant find any markings on it at all. Thanks for looking and I appreciate any feedback :)
It was found near an old iron ore mine, which may or may not have any relevance.
blacksmiths hearth for heating up metal . and to form things like horse shoe or just about anything,,,, the hole is for the air to be blown thur to supper heat the coals ...at lease it looks thay way to me ...smiling
Roy, you again! tried your formula & got heart palpitations and an emergency room bill.LOL
Most forges are made of fire brick & clay. Metal forges don't last long at all & I'm still wondering about this.
On the cheerful side, the E.R. introduced me to some new medical marvels & my pharmacist was the role model for the one on Two & A Half Men. "Are you a cop?".
A potter's wheel?

Roycroft, I do think you are onto something!!!! I am going to do some more specific research - thanks
Thanks for all the feedback everyone!!!
i think that this is for a jeweler or a sharpener - to polish and sharpen fines.
Roy might be on to something, but I don't think the formula he gave me is it!
Soon to be a garden planter?:)
What you have is a farm forge. I have come across several of them at farm auctions here in PA. The farmers used these cast iron forges to repair what they could around the farm........ The center hole is where thr tyer was located. This was hooked to a fan mechanism and the air would enter through the tyer.
