As you know by now, I love Deco, and Depression Glass I found this in a seldom open shop in Sharon Springs, NY, near where I live . I haven't seen one this large before (4x7 and over 5 inches tall) even on ebay, and even though it has some chips, I had to grab it. The box itself has some Egyptian style designs on it. Pic 3 shows the piece under a black light, in as found condition. If anyone knows who made this I'd love to know.
Isn't this a beauty! Nice find! Doing well?
Hanging in there, Amber, and glad that Summer finally got here. I see you have some great scores as well! Nice work. I don't know anything about most of the suff you have, but it's all reallycool, Even the Ugly piece!
Hahaha, I don't always know what things are but know enough to pick up quality. Even if its really ugly! Plus I'm really cheap, so a mistake, it's cool.
Always good to see your treasuresUpState!
Very nice !!!! I watch Ebay all the time and have never seen this piece !
Thanks, Hedge. I thought it must be kind of rare. It looks a lot like the other dresser jars though.
Very nice, I love how the base has designs as well.
Thanks Shawn!
I LOVE figures in glass. This ones a beauty & uranium..bonus:)
interesting mix of character on this item makes me think possibly a cigarette box. The seminude top and the golf scene on the base just seems a bit of a strange combination to me. Do all sides of the base repeat the golfing scene of a female swinging a club and a male walking with a club by his side? The top has a deco feel, but not so much the golfing scene on the base.
saw one other top only in crystal not nearly as striking as this listed as a cigarette box top. THEN, I found a striking pink one with gold décor and listed as Tiffin; mentioned different sports scenes on each side, which make me think cigarette box.

Thanks Vintagefan and Tallcakes. Can you send me the link to the actual box, I saw just the picture, The top looks exactly the same except the color and paint.
sent you an email with the link. That listing didn't include any references to support the attribution. You might check with the Tiffin Glass Museum folks to see if the know about it with send a link to this post and the pink one:

This looks very much like 'Walther Sohne' glass, have you had a look in that direction...here's a good link!....:-)

Thanks tall cakes! And inky, that's some cool stuff. I have to look at it at home instead of on the phone!
found more info related to this box. Apparently originally made in satin crystal and attributed to American Glass and called Cleopatra; there were three version with different sizes, etc. I guessing this is possibly Cleopatra I. Here is a link describing the 3 versions:

From that also found a Cleo III in green which is smaller:

Thanks, Tallcakes. As I look at this, I wonder if the top belongs with the bottom. The sports scenes don't really go with the top. The top is definitely the Cleopatra 1, the legs are centered.Hmmmm. More looking is in store.
the top definitely belong with the bottom; I found others in colors with same description of sports events of each side. Tho' it does seem a bit strange to have Cleopatra on the top and the sports on the bottom; I'm not making the connection.
Yes, I hound the same thing. A mystery!
