Here are three different Horatio Alger books from very different periods of his long publishing career. i've never read one of his books from start to finish, but they sure do have great covers!

I was joking Roy. The lettering is probably so big that we could read it by thumbing thru it. Ever wonder why they print kid's books with large letters when they have good eyes & adult books with small letters for people whose eyes are getting weaker?
that is an interesting point blunder, but the lettering in the alger books is pretty tiny, and for some reason, the stories don't have too much which appeals to me - at least from the outset. i mean who wants to read about 'good boys fitting in and then getting better at it' all the time?

Horatio Alger books were the first thing I actually started collecting. When I was thirteen a neighbor and mentor gave my first one. Now I have over a hundred. The beauty of them is they are a fast and thrilling read. No, Blunder they are not large letters. The plot and storyline on all of them are about the same. Poorboy saves a waif, and is rewarded with a job and makes good. The End.
By the way, it is difficult to find his books in this good of condition. They were read and traded back and fourth, like baseball cards, until they were falling apart.
Everyone read and enjoyed books back in the late 1880s to the 1920s and 30s. No TV! Books were a very big deal back then.
