This is a original Ford/Mercury dealership double sided painted metal, neon sign. This would have been mounted to a building like a flange sign.
I'm having a hard time figuring out when this sign was in service. The Font in the scripting for Mercury started in 1948 and was started to be phased out by 1956 but it was still used until 1958. I found a example of similar Ford font on 2 1949 Ford Truck ads. So, when I brought the sign home, I thought it was from Hostetter Ford that opened in 1957 in Othello, Washington which is the town where I got this from but now I'm thinking it might date back to 1948ish. Any pictures or help on dating this would be greatly appreciated!
I measured the sign out at 100" Tall and 144" wide in the Ford area.
There are between 8-10, 15,000 volt neon transformers still in the case that I will be taking out and I figure they each weigh around 50lbs!
If I can pull it off, I plan to split this into 2 signs that can be hung on a wall and restore them to their original glory.
