I believe he may have been holding a mirror above his hands, have seen a similar one but a female holding a mirror, attached is a link http://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/mirrors/table-mirrors/karl-hagenauer-werkstatte-hagenauer-wien-nude-desk-mirror-ca-1930/id-f_804163/

He's great Amanda. May i ask does silvered bronze mean its plated in silver? The figure i got is very shiny and looks a bronze color on her hands and places where she's worn, but I'm not sure she's coated in silver, it looks like nickel or something, not like other silver plate i have, she's a nice rich silver colour though, if that makes sense. The metal plinth bit her foots attached can't be bronze, as you can see where its been cut. The reference books you have sound great. Thanks for the offer of help. So, does it mention anywhere in your books whether Hagenauer made car mascots?:)

Some "silvered bronze" actually IS bronze with a sterling or fine silver wash, but its a much lighter coat, almost a "dusting," to bring out the accents in the lower relief areas instead of completely plating it. I've seen it in pieces from other countries.

But this piece is coated in probably nickel silver like you're thinking. Just my 2 cents. I'm sure Amanda knows much more than me though, sorry for answering for her.

I tend to think this one is silverplated( sterling) this figure was very expensive in its day.

Do you keep it polished? There's not a speck of tarnish anywhere, and silverplate tarnishes very, very badly. My guess is white brass or some nickel alloy. Doesn't detract from the value or desirability at all though, in fact it would be worse if it were silverplate IMO, because of that dark brown, stinky tarnish it develops.

These photos were taken by the dealer in England i purchased the figure from, he must haven cleaned it before taking the photos, since it arrived last year, i have not cleaned it, it has tarnished, but this does not concern me
