I would really like to know what this is and what was it used for.
It's almost an inch and a half long and nearly an inch tall. It has
a slit like opening on each end. Thanks!

Is it something to hold straps in place? Like part of some old harness. Where'd you find it?

Family stuff. It is very thin. I wonder if it was sewed on to something like a shoe, hat, or clothing?

It seems to be a buckle species. The drawing pressed in the metal is understood better rotating the picture 180 degrees. The branches and the leaves grow upward, the round illustration can be a flower or snake head.

It looks just like my Grandmother's steel guitar piece. You would hold it in your hand and run it over the strings of the steel guitar to get the sound.
