Can anyone help me identify the maker of this vintage nappy dish and is it of the American Brilliant period?? I have seen many similar to this pattern but can't find any that are exact and would love to know the maker - I'm a beginner collector and am trying to learn!!
    Thanks!!!

Hi BettyB! Welcome to Collector's Weekly! The easiest way to know who made your nappy is to look for the acid mark (logo) placed there by the company. To find the mark, hold the nappy to a strong light and rotate it slowly until you get a mirror light relection. This will cause the signature mark to stand out. Usually they were put on the back and are quite small but sometimes, they are on the inside center or edge. There are sites on the web that will list the most common marks of the American Brilliant Cut Glass manufacturers.
Some companies made certain cut patterns that are easily recognizable but very often, companies copied patterns from other companies. They named their patterns but similar patterns from other companies will have a different name. Your predominant pattern in your nappy is the HOBSTAR and it has intersecting CHECKERED BARS with a central Hobstar. The BARS were made with multiple parallel mitres that end with a double-pointed fan design.
I can tell that it is an excellent quality piece. There are thousands of patterns of ABCG so you may never know the name of your pattern or who made it but it is certainly a keeper. RER (BOB)

      Hi,
Thank you so much for the information - it has helped a lot! I realized that there were tons of different patterns (all looking darn similar with very slight differences),
and you confirmed for me that it is very difficult - near impossible - at times to identify maker and origin if there is no acid markings. Thanks so much for your time and effort - I appreciate it!!!!

You would find the mark in the center, or near center of the bowl. Looks like a J. Hoare pattern.
