Thankyou very much eye4beauty!!!
Thank you for your comments,
You have a lovely 1890's zinc trunk -- to be sure it is zinc place a magnet on it -- if it doesn't stick it's zinc alright. (I can tell it is just by looking at it -- have a similar one on my site). Hard to say about value -- most people are not so discerning when buying trunks, so even though zinc is a rarer form they do not seem to garner much more price wise than a regular trunk. (well where I live anyway) Rub it with a lemon and some fine steel wool and it will shine up nicely. Local classifieds should give you a ball park figure. Thanks for the post and welcome to CW!
Thankyou Trunkman for helping them out , very very cool of you dude:)
Thank you very much trunkman for your help.
You are most welcome maria100 -- I failed to mention that yours has a top quality awesome lock!
What exactly was the reason for the zinc trunk? Look, function, fashion? durability? Not sure I have ever seen one. And, is there a part of the trunk that is not zinc? Thanks.
Maybe because of fashion if it is rare. I uploaded new images of my trunk, interesting picture inside the trunk, what do you think about it?
Thanks
I do love the lithographs. There are so many different ones. I have not seen this particular one before and it looks larger than most. I have recently restored a trunk leaving the lithographs yet removing the surrounding paper as it was not salvegable. Many are falling apart but yours is in great shape. What are your plans for the inside of this trunk? Is it that the zinc covers a wooden box? How heavy is it empty? Thanks for the extra pics. Helps me out to see.
Hello"Trunkingforfun". This is the inside of the trunk with zinc cover, but I'm not sure the box is wooden or not. I would like to preserve the inside , but I don't have any knowledge how to do that, It's more likely to give it someone who could take care of that. It's heavy, I'm not sure how much, but I cannot carry it by myself,
I have an almost identical truck, I'm sure it was made by the same place. will try to post a pic, too.
oops, that should have read "trunk" :-p
