Here are a few of mu Murano Clowns. You can tell that they are true Murano pieces just by Quality. There are many Reproductions or compnays from China that are trying to put thier cheep repros on the market, Buyer Beware! I think I paid $1.48 on 2 from Goodwill. And the other 2 larger ones were a Auction buy, less than $10..00 each.

Hi Dave, you are quite right warning people about the cheap reproductions comming out of China!! there are also clowns comming from Czechoslovakia, but another way to tell the differance is the colours, the modern repro's have garish bright colours while the Murano colours are more subtle, the clowns also have what is called scorpian marks made when the glass is hot and snipped off leaving a pinched mark.

I'll semi-agree with backinstyle about the colors (and feel) of the glass being used can help you identify where a clown came from, but I'll disagree with them inferring that the Murano colors are always subtle. I don't think anyone would call a typical Barbini clown subtle.

"Scorpion marks" = inferior workmanship and not sign of quality.

Dave - The two on the left (as you're looking at them) are Seguso clowns and the one with the label under the foot sports a generic gold and red Venetian glass label. Don't know what the fourth (back center) guy is.
      You got some nice buys!
