This is today's treasure on another almost zero day. Stopped one more time on the way out to look at the showcase wall at GW. There it was and it wasn't there when I first came in. So they must have just put it out. As I grabbed it the guy next to me said "is that Haeger ?" I said "yep..Royal Haeger". He then said" I didn't see that there when I came in." Me neither, sorry" as I headed to the checkout ! This is a 7" version of their "Earth Wrap" design they made a 10" one as well. They used the frothy German style lava glazes to great effect. Very 60's 70's in color. I almost mistook it for a pillar candle. One little nick on the bottom but it doesn't show unless you turn it over. Still has the original felt table protector too. -Mike-
Never seen anything like this, thanks for sharing.
They say it's highly collectible. The pieces I saw online were going for 50-80 dollars. That's high for Haeger !
Very nice! Congrats!!!!!
Almost like they were modeling the West German pottery. Love it.
You still treasure hunting?
Nope I'm back...today was very good. More Royal Haeger and even found a piece of Weller ! Plus another ship painting.. A very old one !
I've seen a pair of "art deco" Trojan type horses in the antique store here in Oberlin but not with people on them.
Sounds like it was something really nice Eye. Royal Hickman designs are highly sought after by collectors. Royal Haeger is not super pricey as with most Haeger but something unusual does surface once and a while. A collector would never just let that slip through his fingers whether he knew what it was or not. So he gave it away cheaply, for free, or a profit or just like someone else buy it ? There has to be something online about it. Now I'm really curious !
Morning guys
I would kill for that Eye ! What a great piece of art deco. Royal Hickman horses are probably his best work. The pair at the antique store in Oberlin are turquoise. They have the same style head but with the body and very long legs. They're fifty bucks for the pair which isn't bad,but that's retail. I usually don't spend over twenty at GWs...well, except for the paintings I really like. I agree some of the people that shop there are a little out there. Not the usual people I would hang with...lol
Gooood morninggg...southern Ohio..lol
You should have grabbed it and run like hell ..lol
I can see how the curls in the mane kind of look like heads with just a quick glance.
If you ever run across it again you know someone who really loves Royal Haeger :)
This is the one that our antique store in Oberlin has a pair of for fifty bucks.
