Guitarguy

Hello,
My cousin gave me this Gibson acoustic guitar with hopes that I could restore it to the point to where I could play it. The guitar belonged to his step father. I remember watching my uncle play it when I was about 5 or 6 years old, around 1955 or so. He would play it, at times, like a steel guitar. My cousin claims that it was purchased in the 40's. I'm thinking that it was made in the late 40's or early 50's.
I can't find any markings on it such as serial or model number.
I am curious as to it's origin and it's worth. It does have a crack in the back and the finish is somewhat less than good.
Can you give me any information regarding this guitar?
Thank you very much.
Guitarguy, this is a 1948-1954 Gibson LG-3. The J-45 was a larger model with a sunburst finish. I can't narrow the year down any further without more pictures. Would you e-mail some more pictures to me? John@truevintageguitar.com
