Imagine walking a few steps away and seeing this after I picked up the other Swanson painting. I couldn't believe it. A pastel ! Same artist, same signature ,but so different in style. This guy was really accomplished ! I had to have this too. Ten bucks...sold ! Didn't want to break up the set. The matte is a bit warped from water damage ,but the pastel drawing is fine. I think it was framed much later as it's a chrome and glass frame. So I'm not sure about the date for this one.I haven't taken it apart yet to replace the matte. Maybe it's dated on the edge. -Mike-

Found a nice frame to replace the chrome and glass one and the warped home made cardboard matte. It was the exact size I needed and only five bucks. Nice simple wood frame with a matte that has tan and blue-grey borders. It perfectly compliments the art paper and the colors in the drawing ! It had an ugly "holly hobby" country garden and ducks picture from the 80's in it. I enjoyed every minute of tearing it out. It was really glued in there and it took a while so I didn't damage the matte. I think he looks much happier in his new home now.

Hoping this reaches you. Did you ever find out anything about Swanson? We have a portrait of a woman in our home from the same artist. Which we probably purchased 3 years ago as well.

Nope..not a thing tomten3000. That's how it tends to be. Either you can read the signature and there's no record of a talented amateur or you can't read it and it remains a mystery as to whether it's valuable or not. Just the fun of collecting "original" art. :)

Tomten3000 & Mike - hope this reaches you 8 years later! ???? The Artist is my great uncle, Uncle Russ! ???? He was married to my paternal grandmothers’ sister, Agnes, and lived in Ohio until he passed, about 20 years ago. He was so kind and wonderful! He was an avid painter (obviously) and did portraits of all of my cousins. I would love a chance to purchase these from you if you still have them! Feel free to email me! CatherineGourley1@gmail.com

Hi Tomten and Mike (and CevGo6),

I have some info on Russ if you're still interested. My grandmother was a good friend of his and his wife, Agnes. My family has a fair bit of his works and I figured I'd reach out in case anyone wanted to chat.

This is the first time I've ever searched for his name and works online and I was a little surprised that there isn't more info on him. Guess I always grew up seeing so much of his art on the walls that I thought everyone knew him! Anyways, happy to chat with anyone who wants to connect. I have such fond memories of him and Agnes.
