I have owned this vintage instrument for many years and it has hung in a place of honor in my recording studio for many years. The problem is that no one I have been able to contact can tell me what it is. I believe it is a 1936 Dobro Resonator Mandolin, but I am not certain because there are no labels on it or the case (which is in terrible condition).

I do know that it was purchased (i do not know if used or new) by my wife's Great-Grandfather D. W. Roberts pictured on the far left of the attached Paramount Productions publicity photo who is shown in this 1936 photo on the set of "The Texas Rangers" with (From Left) Loyd Nolan, Fred McMurray, Jack Oakie and Director King Vidor. In McKinley County New Mexico where the film was shot. He was one of the old wests veteran two gun peace officers and was tough as nails and a lover of old time country music and a consultant on the film.

This instrument came down to me from my family and is a treasured heirloom I would NEVER part with. I would however just out of curiosity want to know its manufacturer, model and value for insurance purposes.

So if anyone knows, they can contact me and I would appreciate any information I could get..

    Thanks.

Regal Vintage Mandolin Resonator 1920's era. I believe it was sold in the Montgomery Wards Cataloge. Dave

That's it... Hit the nail on the head. That is the exact twin to what I have. Dave, you are the man. I have wrestled with this for almost twenty years since the instrument was passed to me. It has a great line of ownership and I am proud to own this even if it was the cheapest thing ever made. I could never part with it because of the great history it has. Thank you so much for the info..

It looks like a very early model 250, the low serial # is a plus. Your best bet for an appraisal would be FolkWay Music, they are the big boys when it comes to this type of item.
