Our grandmothers and great-grandmothers have lots of knitted because I have seen a lot of knitting needlle caps that my eyes are pulled over the last years. Probably they are worn on a chatelaine in the past. Unfortunately modern women don't use them anymore. However, they can be assigned to a beautiful necklace for example on a silver Belcher chain. The knitting needlle caps/guards themselves are more than 2 inches long and with the Belcher chain including slide total 5 inches.
Here's such another nice silver couple with comparing silver slide barrel

mustangtony dear friend, thanks for looking and loving as so many times!
What are knitted needless caps & what part is the silver slide?
I tried to Google it & all I got was info on knitting needles & how to knit a cap:-(
walksoftly this are 2 "sleeves" to slide as the handiwork stops of course one on each needle. They used them in the past now not any more. That's why I use the word: caps but perhaps sleeves is a better word? And the slide is the large round "bead" above them.
This is a language problem. English is for me a foreign language and this are such specialized terms that I have probably found the wrong translation. But maybe you know what I mean and give me the good translation. Thanks in advance and thanks for your question and loving!
I get it now, so you didn't have to worry about dropping a stitch!
