Well, I found this little guy for my wife last week to add to my wife's bear collection, he came out of an older collection and needed a new home. He stands approximately 10" and has a 6mm blank button in his ear. Out of all the steiff bears in my wife's collection he seems to have the most charecter . Wish I had some history on him.
Gorgeous bear ! If only they could talk and tell where they have been . He is wonderful.
Thanks Manikin, yes if he could only talk. He has so much charecter , he's a very charming little fellow. My wife loves him. Steiff sure knows how to create these bears and give them a personality.
I always see personality in teddy bears faces . No wonder kids and adults love them . Yours looks to be around 1920's . He has less often seen Brown stitched nose . He still has a lot of mohair left also . Very nice present for your wife ! :-)
Thanks Manikin :). He's one of my wife's favorites.
Wish my Hubby was as great a Teddy hunter! Gorgeous and personable little bear you have there.
Just wanted to add that according to my research, there seem to be only two times that Steiff used the blank button: early 1900's and then around 1948. That said, they did sometimes use up old buttons BUT... If he has shoe button eyes, he should definitely be turn of the century. A wonderful bear!
Bearchamp, thank you, he is a wonderful little bear and one of my wife's favorites. He does have shoe button eyes on him. When ever I find a bear with a nice look I usually bring him home, we really like the Steiffs the best.
he is from 1904-05. they made the printed button after that, with the trailing f nice bear
Thanks Old Toy Collector!
