This mantel clock has been in the family home for over 40 years. It came from a elderly friends home. I don't have the key so don't know if it works. It hasn't been touched in that long because it was on a very high shelf. It measures 17 inches tall and at the base 12 inches wide. It is darker wood and looks to be a simpler style than most of these clocks-any info would be appreciated.

I don't have much information on Gilbert clocks but there is one called the "Indra".
It looks like your example may be missing some decorative wood carvings along the top. Here is another example: http://www.marquisauctions.com/gilbert_indra.jpg
I don't know when this particular model was marketed to the public. My guess would be 1895 give or take 10 years but I could be wrong. At any rate, you have a nice looking family heirloom. The intricate stenciled glass is a beautiful touch. Your wood mantel clock has an alarm feature. These types of clocks were often referred to as "Kitchen Clocks". Thanks for sharing it.

If you call around in your area to a clock repair that specializes in antique clocks you should be able to get a replacement key for under 5.00. Then you can determine if the clock works.
