Know origin of these dolls? East Indian?

I bought these dolls at a yard sale several years ago, and I know nothing about them. Someone will probably know the origin by the language on the bottom of two of the tin stands. The bodies are cloth. Not sure what you call the face--maybe composition based on what I'm reading online. I know nothing about dolls. I just bought these because they are very cool. There are six dolls: 3 women and 3 men.

Women:
-one in red dress with beige flowers; black scarf, fruit on head
-one in all black with green necklace, earring, black scarf
-one in black, holding tamborine, with earring, black scarf

Men:
-one in tan and blue clothing, hold a book, red cap
-onewith striped clothing and tan apron, holding dishes and a torch
-one in brown clothing, sitting in tin chair, holding torch, red cap
