Hand Made Wrought Iron Tool is approximately 48" long. Told it was a railroad tool. If so, it might possibly have been a fire box tool of some sort. Can you help me identify this unusual tool.

If for RR use, maybe for lifting ties just off the ground enough to grab it from underneath with the carrying tongs. My first thought was to lift burning logs that maybe tumbled off the grate or andirons. Then there is always the alien theory to fall back on.

With the sharp bend to the tines I don't think it would work to well in a firebox.
It could be a reproduction hearth fork.

The reason that I say reproduction, is the attachment of the hook on the back of the fork appears to be welded not hand forged.

Walks; picky, picky, picky! I think you are probably right as it does look like old arc-welding. Of course I do have a habit of shooting my mouth off before examining the evidence. Hey, but I was right in my 2nd opinion & guess we can rule out aliens. NEXT!
Just lost my cursor! Oh, there it is.
