    tikiray
    (91 items)

I bought this a few years ago for around $5. The flea market where I got it said they thought it was some kind of pharmaceutical bottle. It's 13.5" tall and has a heavy bakelite lid. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ok, I just figured out from the mark that this was made 1929-57. Any idea how I can narrow it down?

It is a little long and complicated, but this give you the answer of 1940. Start at the top of the third column:

The little flying saucer looking symbol I believe is the Duraglas trademark symbol.
Someone on ebay has one up for 65.00 but they are saying it 14in.

Thanks VF82! That's a lot of info. Now.... how can I find out what this bottle was used for? I'm curious because it's so large.
    6. tikiray tikiray, 14 years ago
      It's definitely Owens-Illinois Glass Company/Duraglas. It's between 13.5-14". Thanks LS!

I am not sure but I do know they used to make gallon and half gallon beer bottles lol. No markings on the bottle besides the bottom?
    8. tikiray tikiray, 14 years ago
No other markings. Man, that would be one BIG beer!!! LOL
    9. VikingFan82 VikingFan82, 14 years ago
I think Budweiser made bottles that big, with no markings. Dont quote me on that though.

You're right, they did. I have one, but it has markings all over it. LOL
    11. VikingFan82 VikingFan82, 14 years ago
Good thing you didn't quote me on that lol

Only other thing I have found is bleach

Someone once told me it was a cough medicine bottle that was delivered to pharmacies so they could put it in little bottles to sell, but I don't know how true that is.
    13. VikingFan82 VikingFan82, 14 years ago
It was manufactured in the bottle plant in Clarksburg, West Virginia, that's what the 4 is, maybe you could see what they made there?

I found one website that said O-I was one of the largest manufacturers of prescription bottles. So maybe there is some truth to the cough syrup theory. Thanks again VF!
