I've had this for thirty years. It was inside a desk that I bought at an estate sale; had no clue what it was until recently. I've been moving into a new house and ran across it in a box. Thirty years ago, the internet would have been useful to discover what it was. But just this week, I found it in the "Warman's Civil War Collectibles". Imagine my surprise to find the same thing there with a photo; stating it dates back to The War of 1812!! It's an intriguing piece that I probably should put in a safe place now. I'm guessing the "glass" is crystal (?) You can tell that it is hand cut. Don't know what kind of leather it is either. I think the fork and spoon are likely silver-not sure- maybe you can tell me more about it? Hope you enjoy seeing it!
Now this answers a post I saw here recently. Fabulous item!
Not silver given the oxidisation.
Thank you for your comment. The knife is the only thing with the oxidation. The fork and spoon are very VERY shiny and not marred at all.
Love it! The post vetraio50 was referring to was mine... I have just the glass and leather case. After posting it here I was told by a member that it was part of a camping set and would have had a folding knife and fork like your's. I think mine is much newer than your's given the snap closure it has on the leather case. Here it is. Check it out: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/95447-have-glass-will-travel?in=user
