It's called Longquan ware porcelain from China. Forgery however, 9 bucks is a smart buy even lower than cost.

Shrine, may i ask if you have anything , a link maybe, to back up your statement?
    5. Stillwater Stillwater, 11 years ago
Its a censer, for burning powder incense. Fake though, sorry
    6. shrine shrine, 11 years ago
Ok, Vintagefran, what kind of things you are asking for? I am knew to this site so have nothing online. I could upload thing you maybe interested on your request and let you know.

There is a good point brought up by Stillwater, if it's a antique censer, where the smoke suppose to come out and the oxygen to come in?

Hi Shrine, Good point about the censer. I wasn't doubting you for a moment, you sound very knowledgable, much needed knowledge here where asian things are concerned, they can be hard to find out about. I just thought it be nice to show a link to support what you say. When you've added a post, anyone with questions could reach you through it, i imagine your'll have a few:)

Hi Fran, again I went a long way to learn lessons thus hard to compress into a photo or so. In case you like to compare, there is one sold to my friend and it's a real piece of Longquan ware in Song dynasty. Look closely at the glaze, you would be amazed by the glare and bubbles. BTW, this price is a real bargain.

Its just nice to see links if you can find them, not always easy i know. Very nice Shrine, but its a bowl, not a censer like this. Sorry but my knowledge of Chinese dynasties is 0!

Oops i called this a censer & its not. Sorry SW

Shrine, why not post some of your Asian collection? Or anything you have you like? I'd love to see it:)

Actually, songwriter, may i ask, why was this considered as a censer? It looks like a jar to me.
    13. Vintagefran Vintagefran, 11 years ago
To the untrained eye its very hard to tell fake from genuine, I know, I've made mistakes But learning i think, i know what I'm buying a lot more these days than i used to and since joining CW I've learnt a hell of a lot.

Old adage, buy what you like ( & can afford:) whats $9 bucks for a nice jar.
    15. shrine shrine, 11 years ago
Hi Fran, I am thinking what to upload as my collection is small and most of them are not easy to understand. I may start putting some common fake items I got from internet to show the trend of reproduction. Will do it later today.
    16. shrine shrine, 11 years ago
The maker of this item tried to imitate the shape of bronze censers 600 years ago. It has 3 feet, 2 ears and round body.

Ooh yes i see, thanks shrine. When you see the real thing its easy to tell them apart. 600 years old! Just amazing. So this jar isn't a fake just a repro, after all its not trying to be a censer, without holes. Shrine great idea to add reproductions, certainly be useful & interesting for me & i suspect many here.

Fran, let's call it censer shaped decoration jar. Songwriter has another one made from jadeite, if I was right. Even though most item listed here are fake, she did dig up gold in dump pit.

I am talking about this one

Thanks Shrine. Its very nice. I don't own any jade & probably wouldn't know it if i did, the fakes or imitations look real to my untrained eye.
