Found this unusual pottery piece today at GW. Turns out to be a botijo (water pot) by Spanish pottery artist Domingo Punter, and not some kind of crazy bong...lol . I really like the colors and the design. Sure would be hard to clean though because it has no lid, just the two tiny openings. Signed on the bottom complete with it's made in Spain gold foil label. Not sure of the year, could be anywhere from the 60's to the the present. The pieces on Ebay have no year either they are just described as "vintage". -Mike-

What Wikipedia says about a botijo :
A botijo or búcaro in Spanish, a càntir, pitxell or poal in Catalan, is a traditional Spanish porous clay container designed to contain water. The botijo has the property that once filled and placed in the sun, it cools the water that it contains, acting as an evaporative cooler.

History Domingo Punter and Teruel Pottery
    http://www.lionluis.com/Negocio/Ingles/mercancia_ceramica_punter_ing.htm

Domingo Punter and his children have a background of five generation of ceramic makers from Teruel (Aragón), in the northern part of Spain.

This is a very unique type of ceramic; there is nothing like this in the world. You love it, or you don't like it. I really believe it’s very special and a tremendous amount of work goes in to theses pieces. This ceramic is a very dense, so the pieces are surprisingly heavy. The clay in this part of Spain is very dark red, which gives this craftsmanship a very unique look.

What they do is reproduce the Spanish Romanic style ceramic from the XIV century. As you can see, the design is very primitive and they only use black and green, which were the colors used during that period.

Thanks for the info Sean. I thought that might be the date too, but then again it could be a design or pattern number. I look around a bit to make sure :)

Ah,,,haaa... it's not a teapot. It's a water cooler called a "botijo" ! You drink from the smaller spout like a canteen .

I think depending on which part of the state you live in dictates what you find. Up north near the Cleveland area were I live you really don't find the art pottery and glass you guys have down south. My friend down in Zanesville always finds great pieces we'd never see up here. I shop several stores between here and Cleveland and some days just turn up nothing.

Good Morning everyone ! Almost time to hit the road and see what's out there today. Really a bunch of junky junk out there lately. Darn garage sales in the Summer kill the thrift's selection. I'll find something though ! :)

Hello team Ohio! I can get in on this because I'm from Rocky River. Mom and siblings still live there. We are going to have to have a CW Ohio chapter meeting.
Thrifts get dry everywhere. I hit five places yesterday and bought nothing. I'll go back Thursday and who knows. It's all about reputation.
