Just got this as a coffee table of my dad. I love it and have no idea about any of the history. It's super heavy and I think is completely hand made. Any ideas about the age etc would be great. Thanks

Could you add more photo's, end view, inside?
Looks like an iron bound strong box.

If it's what I think it is, you can break your toes on it and not budge it at all. Sure looks like a wrought iron "strong box" to me. That large, is not common.

I definitely know that I could break my toes on it.
Lol. I will load some more images once I'm back home.
Any ideas on age. Thanks for comments

I saw a similar box to this one on "PAWN STARS" the other night 17 century treasure /bullion box, It had a fake lock on the front and the actual lock was on the top hidden under a plate, It took an expert to find it and unlock it, disappointingly it was empty. http://www.sidereel.com/Pawn_Stars/season-2/episode-3 one of the links on google to the episode. I couldn't get it to play.

You to post. I unfortunately don't have anything in mine either
But I love it all the same. Thanks again

But where did your father get it from and when?

Hi trunkingforfun it was @ an auction last week, he brought it for me as he thought I'd like it.
